The Problem
Manual therapy of the spinal column can be a safe and effective method of treating a certain number of minor pains and discomforts of the spinal column area.

Like any type of therapy, there are certain risks that can arise. A major concern in manual therapy is the sudden manipulation of the joints between the skull and the first vertebrae in the neck and manipulation of the joints between the first and second vertebrae. Some therapists, such as those who practice what is known as orthopractic manual therapy have banned all high velocity upper neck rotation when the head is held in a position of extension.
